Forecast Discussion
The Storm Prediction Center has put Athens under an Enhanced Risk of severe weather today. The main threat with today’s line of thunderstorms is damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, although hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Also, flooding could become a concern today with heavier downpours embedded in that line. Following a partly cloudy morning, these storms should pass through in the late afternoon and evening hours. Make sure to have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings today, and stay weather aware.
Otherwise, the rest of the week appears to be wet and warm, with chances of rain and temperatures in the 70s and 80s throughout most of the rest of the forecast period. Thursday and Friday look to be our next significant rainmakers as we enter the warm sector of another low pressure system. A few more showers linger early Saturday with a cooler high in the mid-60s.
