Forecast Discussion

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued from the NWS in Charleston pertaining a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather this afternoon and evening. The main threat is isolated damaging wind gusts with possible hail. However, this means a severe storm or two is possible and very localized. It is also worth noting that heavy rainfall is possible through Saturday morning, which could cause areas of localized flooding. Stay tuned for any local alerts and updates!

A very active weather pattern is in store for much of the forecast as chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible anytime today through Tuesday early next week. This is due to a series of disturbances that will move through the region starting with the low-pressure system currently over northeast Ohio that is stalled from a stationary front. Scattered showers and storms will form along this boundary and around the low-pressure system before exiting the region with a cold front Saturday morning.

High-pressure will settle in over the Great Lakes. A brief break in the rain will occur Saturday afternoon and into the overnight with variable clouds and sun. However, another cyclone from the plains will move into the mid-west accompanied by another occluded cyclone from Canada to the northwest of the Great Lakes with rain returning late Saturday into Sunday. Thus, it is advised to keep an umbrella handy for any Athens pride fest events throughout the weekend. Continuous off and on wet weather starting Sunday through Tuesday before another cold front moves through on Tuesday brining cooler conditions and clouds start rapidly clearing as high-pressure settles in at the surface behind the frontal boundary.
