Forecast Discussion

The NWS in Charleston, WV has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook indicating that excessive rainfall is possible during the day today with showers and possible thunderstorms moving in with up to an inch of rain possible with locally higher amounts possible.

Patchy fog is possible through the early morning hours today through 11:00am as the temperature and dewpoint will hover in the low to mid-50s allowing for localized area of fog to form. Otherwise, widespread rain will move into the region early this morning as a warm front from a low-pressure system moves through southeast Ohio and West Virginia moving northeast. Towards the afternoon, rain showers will develop and become more scattered in nature with localized thunderstorms possible, but none are to be severe at this time. Rain can be heavy at times as we are under a slight risk (level 2 of 4) with at least a 15% chance of excessive rainfall. Temperatures will remain cooler than normal in the low-60s as a deep trough from the north digs down into the midwest.

The low-pressure system will begin moving out of the region Friday night, but the trough will linger around throughout the weekend as a secondary cold front from Canada will move through Saturday morning. A stray shower is possible Saturday morning. Otherwise, clouds will stick around in the morning before clearing out in the afternoon. However, gusty conditions are possible on the back end of the low. A warming trend will begin starting on Sunday with highs in the low-70s as an upper-level ridge from the west pushes the trough off to the east and high-pressure fills in at the surface. High-pressure is likely to dominate the region into early next week with temperatures warming into the mid-80s with some locations even reaching the upper-80s.
