Christopher “Chip” Redmond was born and raised in Norton, Ohio. He is a 2011 graduate from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Minors in Physics and Computer Science. He also graduated with a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2013 where he studied upward lightning through photogrammetry. Currently (2020), he works at Kansas State University as an Assistant Meteorologist within the Agronomy Department. There, he manages the Kansas Mesonet and Office of the State Climatologist (Weather Data Library). Chip oversee’s day-to-day operations including Mesonet growth, quality control, product development, climate reports/products, and provides data for weather-driven policy within the state. In addition, Chip also provides predictive service products for the Kansas Forest Service, is a wildland firefighter, a volunteer firefighter and an Incident Meteorologist with a Rocky Mountain Area Type 2 Incident Management Team.

Living in Kansas, Chip often pursues lightning and enjoys spending time around nature’s fury – documenting dozens of tornadoes. He enjoys the open roads of the Central Plains and visiting lesser-known parts of the American countryside. You can follow his adventures on twitter at: @wx_chip .
