Forecast Discussion

An Areal Flood Watch is in effect until 1am Sunday.

The new year is kicking off with a potent low pressure system working through the Ohio Valley. Ahead of the actual low pressure, a warm front has moved over the region, ushering in abundant moisture over the region that has led to the development of rain. As the front hovers about the region through the evening, rain will continue for the next several hours, heavy at times. A rumble of thunder is also possible, especially closer to the time the low pushes across the region tonight. Rain will finally begin tapering off by tomorrow morning, but not before widespread amounts of 1-2″ are expected to fall. As cold air wraps around the back side of the low, remnant moisture may produce lingering rain or even wintry mix Sunday. High pressure will move in for the early part of the week, with more seasonable cold settling in.
