Forecast Discussion

NWS Charleston, WV has Issued Winter Storm Warning From 2pm EST on Sunday 1/16/2022 until 1pm EST on Monday 1/17/2022

We are starting out with mainly cloudy conditions this morning with temperatures in upper 10’s. Look for clouds to continue to thicken up as Snow will start advancing in our area by 2pm, we could start out a mix as well. I would recommend if you still need to run some last minute errands to do so before snow moves in as travel will become increasingly difficult thereafter. Some of the heaviest snow rates begins from about 5pm and continue into 3am Monday. Travel will virtually become impossible by this point and given that this will be heavy wet snow on top of wind gusts of 25mph, there could also be scattered power outages. Steady snows should continue into Monday am before they become more scattered and light in intensity through daytime hours. It appears that 6”-9” of snow will fall at the end of the event. Cold temperatures starts to move in Monday night with some additional cleaning of skies. Please keep checking at our social media accounts for updates leading up to the event regarding any changes in snowfall totals and general tracking of the system.

Tuesday appears to be dry as well with seasonal weather in place. We warm up on Wednesday a little with lots of snow melting at that point. Another potent cold front moves Wednesday evening and we will see mix rain/snow showers. Temperatures drop Wednesday night and wet roads will freeze up and cause some slick travel. Much colder air comes in by Thursday.
