Forecast Discussion
Dry weather will persist today through Saturday as high pressure at the surface and upper level ridging continues. The high pressure will begin to push off to the east Saturday afternoon with an approaching cold front entering from the west. By Sunday, the upper ridge will flatten out, being replaced by an upper trough that will push the cold front through the area. Showers and thunderstorms can be expected due to this weather pattern, mainly in the afternoon/evening on Sunday. Currently, parts of southeast Ohio, including Athens, and northwestern West Virginia are under a marginal risk for severe weather on Sunday. This may change as the day gets closer, but for now the main threats should be damaging winds and locally heavy downpours with stronger storms. The cold front should then push completely out of the area by Monday morning, with high pressure building in. This should keep things dry for most of the week to come.
