Technical Forecast Discussion
Short Term (Sunday 10-2-22 through Wednesday 10-5-22)
As the remnants of Ian diminish out into the Atlantic, low pressure slowly shifts to the east, ushering in high pressure from the northwest to start the work week. Winds will shift from the north, bringing in a blast of drier air to clear out humidity and any clouds for much of the early week. This will remain for all of the short term forecast period, making for dry, calm and pleasant fall conditions up through Wednesday. Temperatures will gradually warm up over the next few days, going from the mid 60s to the low 70s by the start of the long term.
Long Term (Thursday 10-6-22 through Sunday 10-9-22)
By Thursday morning, the persistent ridging pattern will begin to weaken as a broad trough pushes into the region, with an associated cold front. High pressure will remain dominant through Friday evening, limiting any precipitation this cold front could produce, however scattered showers are possible on Friday as the frontal passage occurs. As the trough shifts off to the east pretty quickly, cold, dry air from the north will filter in and, in conjunction with the cold front, will produce temperatures near freezing by Sunday morning, and likely the first frost of the season. Highs following the frontal passage will linger around 60 for the weekend.
