Forecast Discussion
A frost advisory was issued last night from the NWS in Charleston and should be in effect until 9:00 a.m. Despite the chilly start to the day, temperatures should warm up into the upper 60s with sunny skies. This is because a relatively weak high-pressure system will build in the area providing pleasant conditions over the next couple of days. A warm front from an approaching system will move through Thursday morning which could bring a chance for rain, but may miss Athens and stay to the north. However, temperatures will soar into the upper 70s on Thursday and Friday as a result.
Heading into the weekend, Athens will enter the left exit region of a jet streak which is associated with vertical motion. As a result, clouds and precipitation are likely. A cut-off low is present in the upper levels which means that the low-pressure system will be slow-moving and linger throughout the weekend. This will bring chances for rain on Saturday and Sunday with higher rain chances on Saturday. As the system moves east, a cold front will move through Saturday night into Sunday bringing back the chilly fall-like temperatures.
