Forecast Discussion
The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for dense fog that will likely persist for an hour or two after sunrise. Once this fog begins to dissipate, decreasing clouds will follow and allow for sunshine.
Otherwise, today will be a beautiful day. A large, widespread flux of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico will allow for temperatures to peak to the upper sixties. With a surface high pressure to our east, an influx of warm air, and an upper-air ridging pattern this will allow for abundant sunshine and comfortable, pleasant temperatures. Tonight, more patchy fog is expected to return. Tomorrow, a warm front to our north will move northeasterly but since Athens will be located behind this warm front, temperatures will be very warm.
Unfortunately, this period of warm, pleasant temperatures will be replaced with chances of precipitation late afternoon Tuesday and all of Wednesday as this warm front will be overtaken by a rapidly approaching cold front. Wednesday will be where this storm will bring the most precipitation and some slight chances of rumbles of thunder.
