Forecast Discussion

The upper-level ridge that has been sitting over the eastern United States will linger today with highs in the mid-90s with a heat index in the upper-90s to low-100s as indicated in the NWS heat advisory in effect until 8:00 pm. However, a shortwave trough will move through on Sunday along with an associated low-pressure system. This will bring a cold front Sunday evening with a chance for showers and thunderstorms. The SPC has issued a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather. The main threats are damaging wind gusts and large hail with an isolated tornado. Storms will move out Sunday evening bringing some relief to the heat heading into the work week.

High pressure will settle in at the surface for Monday and Tuesday with highs in the mid-80s on Monday. Highs will climb back to the low-90s for Tuesday due to the lift of a warm front. Another low-pressure system will impact the area on Wednesday with another round of showers and thunderstorms allowing for cooler and drier weather to move in ahead of it.
