Thankfully the heat advisory is set to expire at 8 pm tonight. However, this does not mean the heat will be gone anytime soon! Athens will sit in the warm sector of a low-pressure system Sunday bringing us warm, moist southerly winds and a 70% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon into the evening. Because of this, the Storm Prediction Center has increased the severe threat level from moderate to a slight risk (2 out of 5). The primary threat for Athens is damaging winds and small to moderately sized hail.

High-pressure will follow not too long after Monday clearing out clouds. Monday will be relatively pleasant, at least compared to the past week, with a high of 84 with a slight breeze. Tuesday will bring back the heat with a high of 93, but rain and storms are expected to return Wednesday.
