Forecast Discussion

Hot and humid weather persists as we still remain situated under a high pressure heat dome. Radar has shown a few storms moving through the Athens area, and while the largest chance of scattered storms has passed, an isolated storm in the early evening is still possible. Tomorrow, a low pressure system swinging a cold front from the area returns a severe threat from the afternoon into evening. With a slight risk of severe weather and excessive rainfall having been issued, threats once again are primarily within damaging wind gusts and flash flooding. However, these storms appear to be quite disorganized and sporadic, meaning that timings and the possibility of our location specifically being impacted remain disputed for the time being. Therefore, check updates from Scalia Lab and NWS Charleston, WV, for any updates during that timeframe tomorrow. These storms will taper off overnight. However, Wednesday continues to see a few showers and possibly a rumble of thunder return periodically through the day, especially in the afternoon. Thankfully, not only do these storms pose far less of a severe threat, but temperatures will finally be cooling off back to the high 80s.

This cooling trend continues as our region enters more of a troughing pattern, which will take temperatures back down to 82 on Thursday, with slight warming back to the high 80s possible by the weekend. With high pressure keeping weather calm and sunny, the rest of this week looks to be quite comfortable!
