Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-term Forecast (Thursday 08/15/2024 through Saturday 08/17/2024):
High pressure has been dominating for the last couple of days presenting those clear skies and dry conditions. A low pressure system moving in to the north from the great plains region will return some cloudy conditions beginning this evening. Skies will increasingly become more cloud covered and the chance for some rain showers will begin. These rain showers could transition into thunderstorms as a frontal boundary moves in in combination with an upper-level trough Friday. None of these systems are expected to produce anything severe other than the chance for some stronger winds if these storms redevelop Friday evening however, this is not anticipated at this time. These showers will continue into Saturday as this upper-level trough remains present over the region and shortwaves progress through the flow providing some instability.
Long-term Forecast (Sunday 08/18/2024 through Wednesday 08/21/2024):
The chance for rain showers will persist throughout Sunday into Monday as this upper level trough will still impact the region. As this continues to progress out of the region, high pressure will begin to build into the middle of the week providing some drying in our conditions and a warming in daytime high temperatures.
