Sweltering heat continues this week, and is only forecasted to increase in the coming days. Only a few clouds will linger overnight, and these will move out by tomorrow to make for a clear day. The upper-level ridge continues to expand and dominate our area, however, promoting even hotter temperatures to push into the area to make for a high near 99 degrees on Tuesday. Higher pressure begins to weaken, however, but this will not get rid of the heat. Overnight on Tuesday, a few more clouds will trap some of the daytime heat from releasing into the atmosphere, bumping up those daytime temperatures on Wednesday to reach nearly 102 degrees. With classes at Ohio University now in session, many precautions should be taken to prevent heat-related illness while out and about on campus, such as proper hydration, wearing light clothing, and minimizing time outside.

The heat will continue through Friday, with temperatures on Thursday and Friday still remaining in the upper 90s and possibly reaching 100 degrees. However, the ridge will degrade by the end of the working week, becoming more zonal in flow, and a weak cold front from a relatively immature low pressure system further north will reach the area overnight Friday, finally ending this stretch of summer heat with increasing clouds and a slight chance of rain showers from Friday evening into Saturday afternoon. From there, temperatures on Saturday will cool down to the high 80s, moving us to more comfortable weather as we near the end of August.
