Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-term Forecast (Thursday 12/26/2024 through Saturday 12/28/2024):
High pressure will remain anchored over the Ohio Valley on Thursday, ensuring another day of dry and tranquil conditions for Southeast Ohio. Partly cloudy skies and light winds will dominate as atmospheric stability persists, with no significant moisture or forcing mechanisms to support precipitation. On Friday, a weak frontal boundary will approach from the west, increasing cloud cover across the region throughout the day. While this boundary will bring a noticeable uptick in cloudiness, its lack of moisture and upper-level dynamics will keep precipitation chances very low. Heading into Saturday, southerly flow will strengthen ahead of an approaching low-pressure system, resulting in a brief warming trend and more widespread cloud cover. By late Saturday, light rain may begin to develop as the system nears, but precipitation will be scattered and generally light in nature, with no major impacts expected during this period.
Long-term Forecast (Sunday 12/29/2024 through Wednesday 01/01/2025):
Southeast Ohio will round off 2024 with a quiet and relatively mild weather pattern. Sunday morning may feature a few lingering showers as the departing low-pressure system moves eastward, but improving conditions are expected by the afternoon as high pressure builds back into the region. Dry air and subsidence associated with this high will lead to clearing skies and calm weather for the remainder of Sunday. Monday and Tuesday will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with high pressure firmly established over the region. Temperatures during this time will remain near to slightly above seasonal averages, offering a pleasant conclusion to the year. As we transition into 2025 on Wednesday, the tranquil weather pattern will persist. Partly sunny skies and continued dry conditions will provide a quiet start to the new year, with no major weather systems expected to disrupt the first day of January. The pattern of weak high-pressure dominance and lack of significant frontal activity suggests stable weather through midweek, allowing residents to ease into the new year with favorable and uneventful conditions.
