Forecast Discussion

A mature mid-latitude cyclone that brought severe storms to the south will make its way northeast into Ohio tonight into tomorrow. Thankfully, severe storms are not likely to occur in Athens. At most, gusty winds in the early to midafternoon and rain will impact the region. This is all supported by a deep upper-level trough. The warm sector of this system will allow warmer temperatures to rapidly move up from the south and bring moisture with it.

By tomorrow night and into Monday, a small blip of higher pressure will stabilize the atmosphere for a brief moment Monday. Although skies will remain overcast, precipitation is not expected, and winds will generally weaken. Unfortunately, by Tuesday rain will make a return as yet another mid-latitude cyclone moves through the region. The arrival of a cold front early Wednesday morning will chill our temperatures dramatically.
