Overview

Dr. Ronald Isaac

The Isaac Foundation for the Natural Sciences serves to fund, promote, and encourage research and education through symposiums, scholarships, and research grants with an emphasis on atmospheric sciences including meteorology and climatology. It is an entity outside of Ohio University, but primarily serves the Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Sciences and the meteorology students at Ohio University, as well as faculty who involve meteorology students in their research. It was established by the founder of the Ohio University meteorology program (and Scalia Laboratory), Dr. Ronald Isaac (Dr. ‘I’.). Sadly, Dr. I passed away in January 2023 after a reoccurrence of cancer, but the foundation he established continues on through funds from his estate and generous support of alumni, friends, and the Athens community.

The Isaac Foundation currently offers several scholarships to students involved in the meteorology program. The next scholarship applications will open in February 2026. Freshman or sophomore meteorology majors are strongly encouraged to apply, though the scholarship is available to any non-graduating student.
