Forecast Discussion

An intense heatwave is expected this weekend and into next week. Please heed extreme caution if you must be outside this week and know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. General safety tips to combat the heat alongside symptoms of heat-related illnesses can be found at the National Weather Service’s safety page regarding dangerous heat conditions. If you must be outdoors, especially for extended periods of time, please take plenty of precautions to keep yourself cool. This includes but is not limited to: drinking plenty of water and avoiding drinks such as alcohol, applying sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher regularly, wearing light-colored, lightweight, and loose clothing if at all possible, and taking frequent breaks in the shade. For more information on how to stay cool in the heat, please follow the During a Heat Wave tab from the link provided.

A nasty heatwave is expected to greet us this weekend and especially starting next week. Thursday will provide southeastern Ohio with one last day of relief before a large blocking ridge forms over the region and much of eastern CONUS. This blocking ridge will situate itself for numerous days, possibly into late next week, and clear out much of the sky. While sunny skies are welcomed, the persistent southerly winds transporting warm air at all levels of the atmosphere will make these sunny days miserable to be outside for. Please stay hydrated this next week especially, and do not make any unnecessary plans outdoors in the sun if at all possible. Please also remember to consistently wear sunscreen at SPF 30 or higher! Sunburns will make it much harder for you to naturally cool off on top of the other health risks it comes with.
