The WPC has issued a marginal risk (level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall Sunday into Monday as well as Wednesday into Thursday. While any storms are not expected to be severe at this time. The greatest threat is localized heavy rainfall. Many soils in Athens County remain saturated, which elevates the risk for localized flash flooding.

A slow-moving cold front will push for isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorm chances Sunday and Monday. This means some locations can see showers and storms while some locations in southeast Ohio can remain dry. The greater chance for showers and storms will run into Monday with scattered showers and storm chances throughout the day as the cold front pushes through in the evening. Patchy fog is possible Monday morning as well, so make sure to drive with caution as some locations may have reduced visibility. Rain chances and clouds will move out Tuesday and early Wednesday with temperatures climbing back into the upper-80s to low-90s. With dewpoints in the upper-60s to low-70s, heat indices can make it feel like the mid-90s. As a result, heat risk; especially those without cooling and proper hydration are more vulnerable. The greatest heat risk due to hot and humid conditions are likely Tuesday through Thursday with tropical like-air (Heat Risk Map).

A stray shower or storm cannot be ruled out due to the hot and muggy conditions mid-week. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies will persist. The next system will move through by mid-week bringing another round of scattered showers and storms as another cold front slowly approaches the region by the end of the work week.
