Technical Forecast Discussion

Short-Term Forecast (Thursday 08/28/2025 through Saturday 08/30/2025):

The trough aloft that has been sitting over the Ohio Valley region will push eastward more towards New England, possibly becoming cut-off by Saturday. As seen in previous discussions, surface high-pressure will continue to persist in the foreseeable week. A cold front is expected to push through later Thursday evening into Friday morning, likely to bring us enough moisture to allow some clouds to build ahead of it during the daytime hours. However, convection and the moisture content will unlikely be strong enough to produce anything substantial. Unsettled weather is not expected at this time, and much of the same weather will be expected to end the work week as temperatures begin to unfortunately rise once more.

Long-Term Forecast (Sunday 08/31/2025 through Wednesday 09/03/2025):

Clouds are expected so substantially dissipate during the long-term for the most part. After the cold front moves over Ohio Saturday, strong high-pressure will continue to dominate over Ohio. A minor ridge could form over the region after the trough pushes further east, however, a shortwave could develop on Wednesday, and, with instability and respectable vertical velocity values, rain could develop throughout Wednesday. The departing trough will allow warmer temperatures to creep back into the region, though not by much. Overall, continuously stable conditions are expected during the short and long-term, although rain showers could return on Wednesday.
