Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-Term Forecast (Sunday 11/09/2025 through Tuesday 11/11/2025)
A deep trough will continue to dig into the region tonight into Monday. This trough will bring in fridged, Canadian air into the state, dropping temperatures exponentially from what we’ve been used to. Ahead of this trough, a low-pressure system and cold front have already made its way through the region, bringing snow chances behind it. High temperatures may only reach the mid-30s with gusts of up to 25 mph to follow from a considerable pressure gradient associated with the departed surface low. Snow showers are likely to be sparse and minimal throughout this evening into Monday. The trough aloft will slowly phase out of the state, and a ridge will begin to form to our west beginning Tuesday. High-pressure will follow as conditions begin to stabilize, although temperatures will continue to remain rather chilly. Similarly windy conditions from Monday will roll over into Tuesday with temperatures reaching to around 40 can be expected. 500 mb height tendency will continue to fall overnight, however, by late Monday evening to Tuesday morning, heights will begin to rise, especially by Tuesday afternoon.
Long-Term Forecast (Wednesday 11/12/2025 through Saturday 11/15/2025)
Clouds will substantially disperse during the long-term with high-pressure at the surface. A ridge aloft will fully develop over the state during this time, keeping conditions stable and calm. While gusty conditions will continue Wednesday, they will thankfully calm down by Thursday and the remainder of the long-term. A warming trend could be expected throughout this time, and daytime temperatures may reach into the upper-50s if not 60 by Saturday. Another cold front will push over the region Thursday, dropping our temperatures slightly, but they will continue to rise afterwards. By Saturday, an omega-block will begin to develop, and if the trough behind the ridge above the state by then, we may see some more unsettled weather and chilly conditions once more. Overall, calm conditions to follow a fridged short-term.
