Technical Forecast Discussion

Key Messages:

  • High-pressure will sit over Ohio Sunday night into Monday, keeping conditions stable.
  • Temperatures are expected to continuously warm through and past Tuesday as multiple warm fronts pass over the region.
  • Rain to possibly return early Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings; however, these rain showers are not expected to be significant.

Short-Term Forecast (Sunday 12/21/2025 through Tuesday 12/23/2025):

High-pressure will remain over a considerable amount of the eastern United States Sunday evening through Monday. A swath of dry air is expected to continue moving through Ohio into early Monday morning, keeping skies clear. Though, by midday Monday, moisture will return late Monday into Tuesday, bringing back the possibility for rain showers early Tuesday morning. Despite this, much of this moisture is likely going to stay as clouds, especially with low precipitable water content. Winds are expected to remain fairly calm Sunday evening and Monday, but as a surface low approaches near the state Tuesday morning, we can expect sustained winds to pick back up near 10 mph with gusts of up to 20 mph. Temperatures will steadily continue to rise into Tuesday, especially Monday evening into Tuesday morning as a warm front just above Michigan weakly brings warm air from the south into the region. This is expected to actually allow temperatures to warm during the night rather than cool; this overnight warming will also be supported with overcast skies Tuesday morning.

Long-Term Forecast (Wednesday 12/24/2025 through Saturday 12/27/2025):

We can expect a slight drop in temperatures on Wednesday as a cold front associated with the aforementioned low moves over the state. Slightly drier conditions following behind this cold front will allow much of the clouds in our area to dissipate, though lingering moisture will stick around to keep skies partly cloudy. This is expected to keep Wednesday clear as high-pressure settles in once again during this time. This stability will be short-lived as more surface low-pressure systems enter the region, and thanks to the warm fronts associated with these lows, we can expect temperatures to linger around 60 on Christmas Day and Friday. Both mornings will see moisture move through the region, bringing the possibility for rain showers both mornings. Thankfully, these rain showers aren’t expected to be too impactful and will occur early in the morning and likely before your morning commute. Winds are likely going to pick back up both days as well with sustained winds around 10 mph with gusts around 15-20 mph.
