Forecast Discussion

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe weather valid from 7am this morning to 7am Sunday morning.

Yesterday’s highs skyrocketed to nearly 80 degrees and this spring-like fever isn’t going to end anytime soon. Today’s high will likely reach the upper 70’s again but the humidity will be higher today as a system off to our west approaches this afternoon. Unfortunately this time of year when you have anomalously warm temperatures coupled with moisture from the Gulf, you always run the risk of rowdy thunderstorms. Today will be no exception as we are under a slight 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center. The main hazard will be damaging straight-line wind gusts but there is also an increased chance of isolated tornadoes(some of which that may be strong) with a non-zero percent chance of hail.  The anticipated timing of these storms will be mid-afternoon into the evening hours. In the event we see any warnings being issued today, please take action accordingly. After these rounds of storms exits from the East, we will see windy conditions overnight as the cold front pass through the area. A low of around 50 is expected.

Sunday is going to be much more pleasant as it will be sunnier with a couple clouds here and there, decreasing as the day goes on. Highs will be lower than the past two days but still quite nice. Highs in the low 60’s is expected. Sunday night will feature a crystal clear night allowing temperatures to plummet down in the low 40’s

Looking further out to this upcoming week, it’s going to be almost summer-like as daily highs will easily make it into the mid and upper 70’s. However as we get closer to Wednesday, we will see returned chances of thunderstorms. Go out and enjoy these beautiful days while we still can! It’s only early March and we won’t be seeing days like these forever. Although, When Thunder Roars Go Indoors!
