An area of high pressure continues to sit off the coast of the southeast U.S. allowing for temperatures to reach into the high 80s today. A weak cold front currently situated across central Ohio will sag southward throughout the day. This front will be a focus for a few pop-up showers and thunderstorms during the morning and especially the mid to late afternoon. The cold front will pass over southeast Ohio during the early evening allowing for some clouds and relatively cooler temperatures in the upper 60s tonight. As the cold front continues its trek south through Appalachia Sunday, high pressure building behind the front will make for a beautiful 4th of July weekend with sunny skies, drier air, and temperatures warming to the mid 80s. These clear skies will continue into Sunday night with lows cooler in the low 60s. Come 4th of July, a warm front will push northward through Ohio before stalling across northeast Ohio. Hot temperatures will build in its wake with high temperatures in the low 90s. Skies will become increasingly partly cloudy throughout the day. An isolated thunderstorm or two may develop depending on the position of the warm front during the afternoon. The night of 4th of July will see increasing cloud coverage throughout the night with warm temperatures in the low 70s and a small chance of rain showers filtering in during the late night hours. An upper level ridge will push eastward during the rest of the forecast period allowing for a frontal boundary to remain in the vicinity of southeast Ohio. This will be a focus for possible thunderstorm complexes to move through the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Details on the likelihood, timing, and severity of these storms will become more certain in the coming days’ forecasts.
