The NWS has issued an Extreme Heat Watch beginning from noon on Sunday and remaining until Wednesday at 8 pm. This is due to heat indexes reaching up to 106 degrees as we have a heatwave on the way. 

We will be experiencing the effects of a strong ridge of high pressure allowing us to finally see some drier conditions. Unfortunately this will also act as a major heating element allowing for us to enter the first heatwave of the summer as this weekend we will reach highs in the mid to upper 90s. These conditions will stick around well into next week with highs remaining in the upper 90s and lows only in the 70s with sunny skies throughout.

During this time, make sure to drink plenty of fluids and limit time outdoors. If outdoors, limit strenuous activity, take breaks in the shade, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and keep pets off sidewalks and roadways. Make sure to check on friends, family, and neighbors as people are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses include elderly, newborns, children, pregnant women, persons with chronic illnesses and taking any SSRIs.
