Ahead of this cold front, a warm front will lift north today and will become stationary, bringing chances for showers and thunderstorms today and throughout the weekend. No severe thunderstorms are expected to develop, as there is minimal instability present; thus, the main threats will likely be strong winds, heavy downpours, and small hail. Localized flooding may be a concern in low-lying areas over the next few days, as rainfall totals are expected to be around 0.5-1 inches. After the cold front moves through on Saturday, conditions will clear out, with only slight chances for lingering showers and isolated storms on Sunday into Monday. Any isolated thunderstorms that develop on Sunday have the potential to become severe, with Athens just missing the cut for a marginal risk at this time. High pressure at the surface will then build back into the region, keeping much of the next week dry.
