Forecast Discussion

An approaching low-pressure system has brought cloudy skies to our region. As the system’s cold front draws closer, chances for rain to end the weekend and start out the work week will go up. After the passage of this rather potent cold front, you will need to bundle up a little bit more as daytime highs will plummet into the high 30s, and overnight lows dip down into the high teens on Monday night. To accompany this steep drop in temperature, we will have the chance for some snow flurries early on Monday morning, which will be the first of the year for Athens!

Heading into the extended forecast period, expect clouds to clear out a little bit as surface high pressure builds in behind the system as well as daytime highs getting back into the low 50s by midweek. Hopefully, with this high pressure, we will see a nicer and more sunshine-filled week!
