Currently over the region, a rather zonal pattern has set up, and will likely linger until the weekend. A strong high pressure system that has been parked over the southern plains is to thank for this pattern. Today, as the low pressure system and cold front exit the region, we can expect some rather scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms, but dry conditions will stick around beginning around noon.

Heading into the weekend, more chances for showers and thunderstorms will come around as another low pressure system moves in to the north. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for severe thunderstorms for Saturday. It appears that the main threat with storms on Saturday will be damaging wind gusts and hail, and a low tornado threat. However, there are many uncertainties right now, so stay tuned to later forecasts for more information.
