Forecast Discussion

Over the next few days, we are going to experience even warmer temperatures, peaking on Friday where the high temperature is expected to be in the low to mid 80s, which is very unusual for this time of year. The winds will be nice and calm until Friday, which is when the winds will pick up thanks to a massive (and I mean massive) low pressure system. This low pressure system is expected to dip into the low 970s in millibars. For reference, whenever you hear the term “northeasters” or “bomb cyclones”, that is the type of low pressure system we are dealing with, except this one isn’t on the east coast (which is where these systems are normally), but rather in the Midwest. Luckily, it won’t intensify further and will instead weaken as it moves further east, only giving us some heavy rain and the occasional thunderstorm with maybe some strong, perhaps even damaging, winds on Saturday. However, a second low pressure system will develop on the southern end of the storm in the Deep South and move NE. This will be SE Ohio’s biggest threat going into the overnight hours on Saturday going into Sunday morning. We are already in a Day 4 Slight Risk of Severe Weather according to the Storm Prediction Center. So, be prepared for some potential severe weather and to be prepared, go over your tornado emergency plans and any other planning/preparation that you need to do, just in case we do get hit with tornadoes, hail, and/or damaging winds that can knock down power lines and such. These strong winds will also be sustained at 10-20 mph with big wind gusts and the sustained winds will last through the entire weekend. For precipitation, it will mostly be thunderstorms on Saturday and mainly be steady rain to rain showers on Sunday. High temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s for the next few days, then drop into the 60s on Sunday and low 50s on Monday. Low temperatures will be mainly in the 40s and 50s, except for tonight, Sunday, and Monday, which will be in the 30s.
