Forecast Discussion

The current winter storm that brought snow to the region last night and this morning is pushing off to the east. Snow showers and flurries will linger throughout the day and evening until tomorrow morning when the National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory expires. A snowfall total of 2.1 inches was measured in Athens this morning by staff, but snow that will linger today and tonight through tomorrow evening will likely bring the overall storm total up to close to 2.5-3 inches l by tomorrow when snowfall tapers off.

A somewhat strong surface high pushing the low off to the east will become dominant by Saturday night into Sunday morning. Clouds will clear out pretty nicely for the weekend and warm air will move in bringing daytime highs up into the mid-40s by Tuesday. However, with this warm-up rain showers are expected to move back in from the next system on Tuesday with the warmer air mass. Enjoy the snow and clearer weather toward the end of this weekend!
