Technical Forecast Discussion
Short-Term (Saturday 2/17/2024 – Monday 2/19/2024):
An upper-level trough making its way out of the region will give way to higher pressure at the surface, meaning drier and more clear weather for the short-term forecast. A strong surge of NVA into the region will mean rising heights and pressure at the surface. After the frontal passage last night, temperatures are expected to warm up slowly back into the mid-to-high 40s by the start of the week. Overall, expect nice weather for this weekend into the start of next week!
Long-Term (Tuesday 2/20/2024 – Thursday 2/22/2024):
A shortwave trough is going to push into the region associated with an enhanced upper-level jet. The jet streak placement is going to be crucial for the formation of a midlatitude cyclone that will traverse the central plains, and bring a cold front to the region, and strong moisture advection in the mid levels. Chances for showers will return late on Tuesday and persist through Thursday.
