The National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia has issued a Flood Warning for parts of Athens County that remains in effect until 9 PM Friday night.

It most certainly has been a busy week as far as the weather goes, and I hate to be the bearer of (mostly) bad news, but it looks like the rain will continue over the weekend. Conditions favorable for pop-up showers will remain in place from Friday night and into the day on Saturday.

It’s Saturday night that is the most concerning however, and the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Day 2 Slight Risk for severe weather for what is anticipated to happen then. Another round of thunderstorms is anticipated to roll through, bringing more rain and mostly a damaging wind threat. With the ground already saturated, those in low lying areas must be cautious of flash flooding.

After that, the chance for showers continues on Sunday, with the added bonus of a heat index that could possibly break triple digits. Fortunately, after another potential round of rain on Sunday night, there are signs that the weather will calm down as the work week begins, with is a relief for all of those who need to return to Athens next week for the start of fall semester.
