A heat advisory remains in place for Athens County until tomorrow, September 4th, at 8pm. Temperatures are expected to stay in the 90s with the heat index reaching into the triple digits. Don’t forget to limit time outside and stay hydrated!  

Tonight Athens will be under a marginal risk with the main concerns being damaging wind and localized flooding rating a level 1 out of 5. Tomorrow we are placed under a slight risk, a level rating of 2 out of 5, with the primary concerns once again being damaging wind gusts and localized flooding.

The current heatwave will persist through the next 24 hours with high dew points accompanying it, which will make the air feel sticky when outside. Tomorrow the dome of hot air will move out of Appalachia, resulting in the area being free from the persistent muggy air. However, as a result storm chances will increase as a result especially on Friday night into Saturday.

As the storms move out of the area, the temperatures will be more bearable with the highs being in the 80s and lows in the low 60s or upper 50s. Most of the week is expected to have partly cloudy conditions as well.
