Forecast Discussion

A negatively-tilted trough is beginning to barrel through the region, and bring an extended period of instability and unsettled weather to the region. Beginning today, some showers are expected through the afternoon hours. Rainfall isn’t expected to be overly significant for this afternoon’s event, but it will begin a period of excessive rainfall, and we will likely see some flooding over the next few days as we are continuously hit with rain and thunderstorms. Today’s rainfall event will be followed with a brief period of peace, and then followed with thunderstorms tonight after midnight. These storms have some severe potential with a risk of severe wind gusts being at the forefront, but are not expected to cause widespread damage.

Tomorrow, the cut-off low will reach the region, and we’ll see two rounds of storms. These sets of storms places SE Ohio squarely in a “Slight” risk by the storm prediction center (Which can be viewed here) This first set of storms will likely be linear, and carry a risk mostly of severe wind gusts, similar to tonight’s storms. Once again, excessive rain and wind damage is possible, so be alert! In the nighttime hours, SE Ohio will then see some discrete, cellular storms that could potentially be headache. All severe threats are in play with these storms, including severe wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes. Be sure to stay tuned into Scalia Lab in order to stay updated with this event.
