Forecast Discussion

The National Weather Service in Charleston, WV has issued a Flood Watch until February 12, 08:00 PM EST.

The National Weather Service in Charleston, WV has issued a Wind Advisory from February 12, 10:00 PM EST until 10:00 AM EST on February 13.

A broad area of warm air advection exists ahead of an approaching low pressure system. Rather light precipitation should continue until the passage of the cold front. However, due to around an inch or rain falling across much of Southeast Ohio throughout the past 24 hours, flooding can be expected in susceptible areas. A rapid decrease in temperature can be expected with the cold frontal passage and precipitation will transition to snow. Snow accumulations will be light if there is any, with a coating to a half an inch possible in some areas. The main story aside from the cool down in temperatures will be the strong winds due to a tightening pressure gradient. Wind gusts can exceed 45 miles per hour through mid-morning Wednesday.

A slight warm up is expected Thursday into Friday with the temperature nearing 50 degrees both days before a cool down for the weekend. An active weather pattern will continue throughout the next week to ten days with numerous shortwaves embedded in the upper level flow.
