The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Athens, OH in effect until 9:00 PM tonight. A line of thunderstorms will be making its way across Ohio throughout the day today.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) also has Athens County under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather today, as well as a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) for possible isolated flash floods.

Spotty rain showers and thunderstorms will be moving throughout the day with strong wind gusts. The storms will transition to rain showers into the late evening tonight. Do not drive onto flooded roadways. Tomorrow is going to be a cooler day than what we’ve had recently with daytime temps in the mid-70s with lots of sunshine. Overnight lows will drop down to the low-50s and winds will majorly stem from the northwest since the cold front passed. This sunshine will continue into tomorrow with temperatures slightly below-average once again in the mid- to upper-70s. Another round of thunderstorms may occur Wednesday night and through Thursday. At the moment, the Storm Prediction Center has a 15% chance for severe weather for Thursday the 18th. Details about severity for this weather will become clearer as we move closer in the week and the chances may change.
