The heat advisory for Athens County has been extended until Friday, September 4th at 8 p.m. Heat indices are likely to stretch into the triple digits in the next two days. It’s important, especially this week, to stay hydrated and indoors as much as possible!

The heat wave will continue for southeastern Ohio for the rest of this week. Dewpoints will be high, which causes the atmosphere to hold a lot of moisture and make the air feel sticky when outside. This sticky air will linger around tonight, tomorrow, and into Friday. Thankfully, the warm pocket of air will move away from the Appalachia on Friday. This will support strong storm developments late Thursday night into Friday.

A slight risk has been issued for severe thunderstorms for tomorrow, rating a level 2 out of 5. This is paired with a marginal risk for excessive rainfall, rating a level 1 out of 5. Damaging winds and localized flooding are primary concerns for the first round of showers and thunderstorms. Friday has a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms, rating a level 1 out of 5. Any lingering storms could produce damaging wind gusts as well.

Once the storms clear out, the weekend looks to be stupendous! Temperatures will drop to the lower 80s for the holiday weekend, and skies will remain clear. Next week has a slight warm up ahead, with sunny skies sticking around.
