Technical Forecast Discussion

Short Term

Low pressure has since moved out towards the east, being the main cause for rain we have seen today. Cold air advection out of the troughing pattern means a sharp drop in temperatures, bringing us back to more seasonable temperatures with highs in the mid to upper 40s and overnight lows being well below freezing in the 20s. The name-of-the-game this week is polar as a pocket of arctic air just remains overhead for the entirety of the week. Upper level moisture persists as well, meaning we are expecting a weak cold frontal passage on Monday evening to continue the chance for precipitation. Because temperatures hover around the freezing point, the type of precipitation we see with this weak system will be a wintry mix. Tuesday we will start drying out with high pressure beginning to dominate, but arctic air sticks around to make sunny skies deceiving.  We ride out the week with generally uneventful weather, besides dangerously freezing temperatures during the overnight hours with that polar jet stream dipping into the area. Bundle up, Southeast Ohio!

Long Term

To wrap up the end of the work week, we are still looking at the effects of the high pressure system: sunny skies and little moisture. Cold air from the arctic continues to barrel the region. Winds transition from the west to a northerly breeze with the passage of a low pressure center in the South on Friday. Models are showing our next potential warm-up early NEXT week, but continue to monitor conditions and keep updated for accuracy.
