Technical Forecast Discussion

Short Term (Thursday 5-25-23 through Sunday 5-28-23)

The weather this past week has been rather quiet thanks to upper level ridging and high pressure at the surface dominating the southeast Ohio region. This has provided sunny skies and mild weather, with only a slight cooldown occurring last night due to the passage of a dry cold front. The pattern of what is called an omega block is now taking over the U.S. This pattern consists of a ridge of high pressure being sandwiched between two troughs of low pressure. Due to this ongoing pattern, the southeast Ohio region will still remain under the dome of high pressure for the meantime, meaning Friday will be another mild and sunny day. Chances for rain will appear this Memorial Day weekend, however, as an upper level low from the west sends moisture into the area on Saturday, and at the same time, a low pressure at the surface will approach from the southeast. These chances for rain will be on and off at best due to the recent dry weather and the omega block pattern. Fortunately, the rain chances look to end before Memorial Day, as the majority of the precipitation will be shifting towards the mountains.

Long Term (Monday 5-29-23 through Thursday 6-1-23)

The aforementioned low pressures will push off to the east during this time period, allowing a dome of high pressure to build in behind it. This will warm up temperatures quite a bit in fact, with temperatures rising into the high 80s to low 90s by mid week! If you are a summer lover, this will be the perfect weather for you.
