Forecast Discussion
A concerning weekend is on tap for the weekend. The National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia has issued a Flood Warning for Athens County until Sunday Evening. The National Weather service says two crests will happen. The first crest will happen tonight at 20 feet. The river will go below flood stage tomorrow before rising again Sunday. The second crest will happen early Monday morning at 23.5 feet. At that level Homes at the mouth of the river and homes and business along West Union Street near the river will flood. At the bottom of this discussion is a chart about what impacts can be seen with certain crests. Outside the flood risk their is a small risk of severe weather for tomorrow though not to the level that happened early Thursday morning. Main risks are damaging winds and small hail though a isolated tornado is possible. An isolated severe storm is possible at any point throughout the day. A washout is expected for Saturday with temperatures approaching 70 degrees. Sunday will bring light to moderate rain to the area with temperatures falling throughout the day. The rain will finally clear Monday but temperatures will be a lot cooler than the summerlike feel last week. Tuesday’s temperatures look to be only in the lower to mid 40s. We do make a bit of a rebound Wednesday with temps approaching 60. Maybe some light rain early Thursday morning.
