Today, a strong low pressure system will move into our area from the southwest, bringing morning rain as the warm front passes through from the morning into early afternoon, then late afternoon thunderstorms following the cold front, a few of which could be severe. The greatest impacts today include heavy rain, possibly an inch or higher, strong winds, and a low, but still possible, chance of a tornado. Currently, a flood watch beginning at 7:00 AM, and wind advisory from 4:00 AM onwards, are in effect. Today, expect a high in the upper 50s, and relatively cloudy conditions, with some potential breaks in the afternoon, after the morning rain but before the afternoon thunderstorms. As this strong system pushes on, high winds are likely, approaching 30 mph and gusts upwards of 50 mph, as the cold front nears. Following the passage of the cold front and subsequent thunderstorms, windy conditions will persist, with gusts still approaching 50 mph. However, rain showers in the evening will leave the area by midnight, with cloudy conditions continuing into the morning hours and temperatures plummeting into the high 30s. A stray early morning shower or snow flurry is possible, but the chances of that drop as the morning continues. Tomorrow, clouds will begin to break in the afternoon, with temperatures in the low 50s. Higher pressures will begin to build in our south, granting us clearing skies and lighter winds around 5-10 mph as the weekend continues.
