The National Weather Service in Charleston WV has issued a Flood Watch in effect from 1pm Saturday January 19th to 4am Sunday January 20th.

The rain showers from this system will finally transition to freezing rain and sleet closer to midnight, followed by snow showers after about 2 AM. Moderate snow showers will fall through mid-morning on Sunday, with some lingering light snow possible during the day before dissipating by the late evening. Snowfall totals from this system are only about 1 – 3 inches in Athens, but some light ice accumulation will create very slick roads on Sunday. Temperatures will plummet Sunday into Sunday night as strong colder air advection filters in, allowing for lows Sunday night to drop to around 0. High pressure out of the west will begin to settle in Sunday night, helping to dry us out and provide mostly cloudy skies on Monday with highs struggling to break 20. Upper-level ridging will allow us to rapidly warm-up on Tuesday, with the next chance for rain returning Tuesday night.
