An area of mixed precipitation will impact Southeast Ohio this morning. The majority of the precipitation should fall as rain, but due to the high amount of cold air advection present near the surface, some sleet and snow can mix in. The majority of the moisture should be out of the area by this afternoon, leaving behind cloudy conditions. The temperatures overnight tonight will plummet to near 20 degrees, meaning any residual water left on the roads overnight will likely freeze. An impactful winter storm will impact the region Wednesday night into Thursday. A warm front will pass through the area Wednesday night into Thursday bringing the potential for precipitation to start as a mixture of sleet and snow before transitioning to freezing rain and then plain rain. Models are still diverging on exact solutions for how long the frozen precipitation lasts in the area, but all models agree on a change to plain rain sometime Thursday morning as warm air “wins”. High pressure will build over the region and dominate as we head into the weekend. A cold front will impact the region Sunday, bringing the potential for some snow and rain showers.
