Temperatures will get quite warm again today with a high near 85. Along with the temperatures increasing, clouds will also increase in coverage and winds will pick up once again with sustained winds between 10-15 mph. There is a slight chance for an isolated thunderstorm or two this afternoon before the main cold front arrives. The SPC has Athens in a Marginal (Level 1/5) Risk for severe thunderstorms from any of these isolated storms. Damaging winds looks to be the main threat. Rain chances will increase as the cold front moves through Saturday night. Expect a long period of rain through the overnight hours with lows dropping to the high 40s. Rain showers will slowly move out of the area Saturday morning, but scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected to move in and out of southeast Ohio throughout the day Saturday. Highs will also be cooler than the past few days as they reach only around 60 F. Saturday night will bring back chilly temperatures in the mid 30s.

The extended forecast will be cooler, but sunny and clear. Each morning, widespread frost can be expected as lows drop to around 30 Sunday through Tuesday. Highs will also be relatively cool in the high 50s and low 60s for those three days. Make sure your plants are prepared for the upcoming frosty mornings!
