The heat will continue for today with southwesterly flow and highs in the upper-90s with heat indices possible in the low-100s due to more humid air moving in due to the approaching trough. When outdoors, make sure to drink plenty of fluids! Luckily with the approaching trough, this will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms late Friday evening through Saturday evening. This is due to an occluded midlatitude cyclone located to the north over Canada, which will progress eastward as the stationary front progresses to a warm front. Ohio will be located in the warm sector creating a moist, unstable airmass to fuel thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. This is especially true when the cold front pushes Saturday evening. The SPC has issued a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) due the instability that can cause an isolated wind gust and hail. This will provide a much needed relief from not only the heat wave, but also the drought currently situated in southeast Ohio.

Once the cold front moves out, clouds will persist on Sunday. A secondary cold front will move through from another low-pressure system from Canada Sunday evening bringing much cooler conditions for Labor Day. High-pressure will settle in behind the front on Monday giving way to clear skies with highs in the low-80s.
