A slowly-moving low-pressure system emerging from the Great Plains is expected to move into the Ohio Valley shortly, bringing Athens chances of precipitation into this weekend, particularly Friday night and likely precipitation lasting the entire day on Saturday.

For today this front will continue to stall throughout the day as continuing pleasant weather and sunny skies until the evening, where chances of precipitation will increase as the system approaches.

Friday evening will possibly bring showers due to an elongated squall-line forecasted to pass over our region. This will push across much of the Eastern United States throughout much of the day Saturday bringing rainy weather after a long period of sunshine, we’ll also expect stronger winds as a result of a strong pressure gradient aloft. At this point, this cold front is at its most mature stage as it passes and will both weaken and move away by Sunday morning. On Sunday, a pronounced ridging pattern aloft will allow for pleasant sunny conditions to return, but not for long as a closed low and amplified trough will bring likely rain Monday.
