Forecast Discussion

An upper level ridging pattern continues, bringing another day of hot and humid weather. Today’s high will be 95 degrees, with dew points in the mid 70s. Conditions like these will be incredibly uncomfortable to be out in, and can be dangerous for prolonged exposure, so do minimize the amount of time spent outside. Instability will be rampant today, which is why southeastern Ohio falls under a slight risk of severe weather. A few pockets of isolated thunderstorms may develop in the area throughout the day, and will likely remain stationary until they run out of fuel. With these storms being isolated and slow moving, one small area may receive a lot of rain and some thunder for as long as a few hours, while a location only a few miles away may receive nothing at all. The main chance for storms comes later today and tonight, however. In the earlier afternoon, a line of storms tracking east to west will impact the region, bringing a chance of wind damage. Later this evening, isolated storms further northeast will merge into a few line systems and travel through southeastern Ohio, the first round occurring around 10 pm, the second 5 am. Severe threats are mainly strong winds. Tornadoes are very unlikely due to the lack of enough shear in the environment.

By morning, a few showers may linger, but the pattern still remains the same. The ridge will continue to dominate weather again Saturday, with temperatures up to 93 degrees and dew points in the mid 70s. Once again, these conditions are dangerous to be out in for extended periods of time. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, reducing the amount of instability present, making storms a little less likely to fire. However, a chance is still present, and southeastern Ohio is once again under a marginal risk of severe weather, for gusty winds and small hail. Once again, if any storms do fire, they will be relatively stationary. The chances of storms diminishes overnight as a troughing pattern finally emerges, dropping temperatures down to a low of 64 degrees. This trough will return temperatures to more seasonal highs and lows in the mid 80s, and keep humidity at much more tolerable levels, providing a calm entry into the new week.
