Today, a potent low pressure system much further west has swung its warm front up through our region, delivering morning rain that will persist until the afternoon. The rain will be relatively steady, with accumulations up to half an inch. As the afternoon progresses, some scattered rain showers are possible, but pressure will continue to drop as the low tracks northeastward, From the afternoon into the evening, wind will have picked up, approaching 20 mph, with gusts around 30 mph. We are currently under a Wind Advisory, but for tomorrow’s wind threat, not today’s. Temperatures will stay in the high 50s/low 60s throughout the rest of the day, even as the night approaches. From the evening onward, it will be cloudy and windy, and rain will return after midnight, with accumulations once more around half an inch. The strong low will now be stationed over the great lakes, so this second rain will be from the passage of the cold front.

By Saturday morning, the passing cold front will be east of us, leaving us with plummeting temperatures and very windy conditions. In the morning, there will be a period of sunny skies, but clouds will move in once more, and by the afternoon, it will be overcast. Some scattered light precipitation is possible in the afternoon as well. Before noon, temperatures will peak at around 67 degrees, but then drop very quickly as colder air moves into the area, dropping to the 50s by the afternoon and the 40s by the evening. Winds peak around noon as well, at around 30-35 mph, and gusts up to 50 mph. Saturday night, pressure will build again, dropping the winds and bringing calmer conditions back to the region. Overnight Saturday, clouds will eventually break apart to more partly cloudy conditions by sunrise Sunday.
