Forecast Discussion

There is an upper-level closed low in Canada north of the Great Lakes which will bring a troughing pattern to the eastern U.S. for much of the forecast period. Today, the Ohio Valley will be downstream from a trough with an associated low-pressure system. This will bring a chance for some showers and thunderstorms with some isolated severe storms. The SPC has issued a Marginal Risk for severe weather with the main threats being hail and damaging wind gusts. Overnight, there is a slight chance for some remaining showers and storms mainly early with an associated cold front moving through Tuesday morning. Heading into Tuesday, we will be in the right exit region of a jet streak bringing subsidence for a brief period associated with a high-pressure system making drier conditions.

However, the dry period will not last as there is another low-pressure system that will move through the Great Lakes Wednesday evening through Friday bringing a chance for more showers and thunderstorms. The severity of the storms Wednesday evening can change depending on the track of the system and the placement of the warm front. The rain will move out Friday morning bringing another period of dry conditions during the day on Friday. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-80s throughout the period.
